World's Hardest Game forums tracked these achievements with a seriousness that belied the game's humble Flash origins, and video recordings of near-flawless playthroughs circulated through early YouTube as some of the platform's first gaming demonstration videos.

Portal Leaderboards and the Infrastructure of Competition

Kongregate's badge and points system, launched in 2006, created the first large-scale competitive infrastructure for Flash games. Flash's partially accessible code was both a security concern and a gift to speedrunners. Henry Stickman games have been speedrun on Twitch by players who grew up with Flash and continue to engage with the series through its commercial successors. The Flashpoint preservation archive has specifically been used by speedrunning communities to continue running Flash game categories after 2020, preserving competitive records that would otherwise have become unverifiable.
